4 SaaS mistakes I made

And I want you to avoid

Hello you! I’m in ski holidays that week, so I’ll try to be short. As you know, I’ve launched multiple SaaS products. Some succeeded, others failed.
Here are the 4 common mistakes I made (and how you can avoid them) 👇

Mistake #1: Building a product without knowing how to sell it.
My first SaaS was a crypto trading alert tool. It was super useful for me—I used it all the time. I made 5x my investment, yet I sold zero subscriptions.
Why? I couldn’t reach my target audience.
👉 Find your distribution channel before you start coding.

Mistake #2: Waiting for a perfect product.
For my first SaaS, I spent months polishing it before launching… and made zero sales.
When I launched IACrea, the first version was super basic. It didn’t work perfectly, but it delivered real value. People paid for it, the idea was validated, and I kept improving it.
👉 Launch an imperfect MVP and refine it with feedback.

Mistake #3: Platform dependency risks.
When I launched TwittExplorer, a SaaS for analyzing Twitter data, Twitter announced—just two days later—that their API would become paid ($42k/month 😅).
Game over. I no longer had access to the key data.
👉 If your business depends on another platform, be aware of the risks so you can pivot if needed.

Mistake #4: Partnering too quickly without clarifying the vision and organization.
I made this mistake with Cortexsheet.
On paper, it looked promising, 2 guys proposed to Hasan, my partner and I, a deal. But we hadn’t aligned our expectations or clearly defined our roles. My partner and I delivered the SaaS in 2 months, it was quite stressful and they wanted to launch quickly and it was a side project for us.
The result? They didn’t make the launch they promised. My friend Hasan who was onboard too was scammed. It was a frustration and a wasted time.

And you, did you make any mistake?
