- From failed SaaS to 1 that made $$$
From failed SaaS to 1 that made $$$
I see a lot of indie hackers making this mistake.
(I made it too, more than once.)
Each new project:
→ new audience
→ new problem
→ new stack
→ and everything built before goes to the trash 🚮
Imagine:
→ you build a SaaS for restaurants to make recipes with seasonal vegetables
→ then one for journalists to help to find articles
→ then one for sports lovers to track perfomances
I’ve done that
In the early days, I jumped from a photo for fun portraits, to a Twitter analytics tool, to a crypto trading bot.
Different markets, different users, different everything.
Each time, I was starting from zero.
And guess what? That was a mistake.
Reuse = Compounding
I understood this by watching people like:
→ Tibo — he built 7 Twitter tools before launching a million dollars product Tweet Hunter, reusing the same audience and tech each time. Then, he built Taplio (creators audience), and continued to deliver SaaS for creators: feather, outrank…
→ Marc Louvion — he doubled down on indie hackers as a target, and launched ShipFast, CodeFast, and more. Same audience. Same niche: people want to create SaaS. And earned million dollars as well focusing on that niche.
They didn’t reinvent everything.
Your Past Projects Aren’t Useless
Even the “failed” ones.
That crypto trading tool I built and no one bought? It taught me reaching influencers as a distribution strategy is NOT easy.
The photo SaaS ? It got acquired (even with just €400 in sales). I didn’t sold it for a life changing amount but it taught me the sales process.
Every line of code, every user interaction, every email reply… is potential leverage.
Now when I build a SaaS I’m looking at two things:
- Audience: Is my target customer a real estate agent or entrepreneurs?
- Tech: Do I have a similar tech already done for an audience?
If the answer is no to both, I don’t start the project.
Why?
With IACrea I know I can reach several thousands real estate agents.
With my medias I can reach thousands entrepreneurs.
With similar tech, I can go fast, so it’s okay to copy paste a SaaS and try to sell to another audience.
My latest SaaS was YES for the audience. If you’re an entrepreneur you’ll likely enjoy it. Do you want to be a beta tester? Reply BETA TEST if you want :)
You Don’t Need a New Idea, You Need Focus
Next time you’re tempted to build something new, ask yourself:
→ Can I reuse what I’ve already built?
→ Can I sell this to the same audience?
→ Can I stack this on top of a previous win?
That’s how you escape the 0 → 1 loop.
That’s how you reach 1 → 10, then 10 → 100.
TL;DR
Don’t throw away your old projects
Reuse your audience, your tech, your niche
Play the compounding game
Starting over feels productive, but stacking wins can bring more $$$
🧠 So now, tell me. Have you reused a past project or audience in your own journey?
Hit reply and tell me :)
